In the News: New Electoral Boundaries Announced

Alberta - The new Electoral Boundaries recommended by a government-appointed commission will dramatically change the scope of southwest Calgary. Calgary-Currie will effectively disappear. The communities of Cliff-Bungalow, Mission, Mount Royal, South Calgary, Altadore and Garrison Woods will be added to Calgary Elbow. Currie will become Calgary-Killarney, and be bordered by 14 Street SW to the east, 26 & 33 Avenues to the south, Sarcee Trail to the west and the Bow River to the north.

Calgary-Killarney will effectively be made up of Bankview, Richmond/Knob Hill, Killarney, Glenbrook, Glendale, Westgate, Rosscarrock, Wildwood, Spruce Cliff, Shaganappi, Scarboro and Sunalta.

On February 24, 2010 the Commission submitted an interim report to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The commission is now seeking public input on the interim report and is accepting written submissions until April 2, 2010. Based on this feedback, a second series of public hearings will be held, to be scheduled as required during the period of April 12 to 30, 2010 before finalizing the electoral boundaries and names. A final report will be submitted to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly by July, 2010.The new electoral map, once approved by the Legislative Assembly will be used for the next provincial election.
