Dave Taylor, MLA
Dave Taylor's hugely successful 31-year career in broadcast journalism saw him working from radio stations in London, Ottawa, Toronto and Calgary, where most remember him from the morning show on QR77. He has also been a sessional instructor at Mount Royal University and a member of the University's broadcast advisory committee. He has been honoured with two Ohio State Awards of Excellence in Public Affairs Broadcasting and was a finalist in the documentary category of the International Radio Festival of New York.
Dave first ran and was elected to the Official Opposition as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the constituency of Calgary-Currie on November 22nd, 2004. He was re-elected to his second term on March 3rd, 2008. On April 12th, 2010, Dave left the Caucus to sit as an Independent MLA in the Legislature. His last positions with the Official Opposition were as critic for the departments of Energy, Housing & Urban Affairs and Municipal Affairs. Dave's work on the Opposition's Housing & Urban Affairs policy of 2007 led to the government implementing several programs in accordance with his plan and drastically changed the way the province views homelessness. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee on the Economy, Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing Committee and the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services.
Dave's involvement in Calgary's Urban Parks Project River Valleys Master Plan and position as the founding chair of the Southland Natural Park Society had the result of protecting the natural area from development. He has also been a long time stewardship volunteer at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary - one of his favourite spots in the city. Dave is an avid birdwatcher and gardener, and enjoys spending time with his wife of 25 years, Martha, and their two children, both of whom are students at the University of Victoria.
