DAVE TAYLOR, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary Currie Dave Taylor's hugely successful 31-year career in broadcast journalism saw him work at radio stations in London, Ottawa, Toronto, and Calgary, where most remember him from the afternoon talk show on QR77. Prior to that Dave was News Director at 107 KIK-FM (now Q107). He has also been a sessional instructor at Mount Royal University (MRU) and a member of MRU's broadcast advisory committee. He has been honoured with two Ohio State Awards of Excellence in Public Affairs Broadcasting and was a finalist in the
documentary category of the
International Radio Festival of New York.
Dave first ran and was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the constituency of Calgary Currie on November 22nd, 2004. He was re-elected to his second term on March 3rd, 2008. On April 12th, 2010, Dave left the Alberta Liberal Caucus to sit as an Independent MLA in the Legislature. His last positions with the Official Opposition were as critic for the departments of Energy, Housing & Urban Affairs and Municipal Affairs. Dave's work on the Opposition's Housing & Urban Affairs policy of 2007 led the government to implement several programs in accordance with his plan and drastically changed the way the province views homelessness. He is currently a member of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance, the Standing Policy Committee on Community Development, and the Standing Policy Committee for Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing. On January 24, 2011, Dave made history by becoming the first Alberta Party MLA in the Legislature. Dave's involvement in Calgary's Urban Parks Project River Valleys Master Plan and position as the founding chair of the Southland Natural Park Society resulted in the protection of this natural area from development. He was a long time stewardship volunteer at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary - one of his favourite spots in the city. Dave is an avid birdwatcher and gardener, and enjoys spending time with his wife of 26 years, Martha, and their two children. |
